@elsewhat I just did two seperate recordings in two blank scenedirector.log's for comparison.
one was a boat that as usual steers off course.
The other a car that pretty much followed the path first time without any adjustment.

The only difference in the two .log files I noticed was that the car recording had a Heading:### where as the boat had no such entry within it's waypoint data.

Could this be why they steer off course?
I notice the boats are sort of trying to follow the recording but they seem to do so by over steering left and right....
Could missing header data for the boat be the issue?

@elsewhat it appears it's just water in general.
Swimming recordings also bug out and send swimmers in circles.

@elsewhat been playing around some more with boats.
The issue appears to be 'edit scene' I think.

I created a recording once again driving a boat straight forward and upon initial playback this time the boat went to the first way point! (Great, I thought, update 3.3 must have fixed something!)
Then it went off course instead of going to the others.

So I went into edit scene and started making tweaks to height, distance and also settings such as distance completion and check rate for each marker (unlike walking/cars, boats seem to make fewer markers that have more distance between them, so I also tried bringing the third one closer to see if I could get the boat to get any further along the path).

Each time I made changes and tested the scene while in 'edit scene mode', the boat kept going nuts after the second waypoint.

Then, when I exited edit mode and just simply tested playback from the scene director main menu, it played correctly!!

I'm confused and at a loss to whats going on lol but it's 'sort of' working now.
It's fair to say...boats are fiddly!

@elsewhat I did some thorough testing with boats last night.
At first I thought it might have just been the boat I used, so I tried dinghy's and yachts too and they all steer off course the moment they play back.

I used the edit scene to check the markers. They were pretty well spaced out and in a straight line (I guess I can try moving them really far apart) so it recorded and placed them correctly.
I adjusted their distance and check rate to force the boat to get close to each one but it wasn't even trying to get to the first marker....it just drove off to the side.
I tried raising the markers too to see if being in the water was the issue.

The only thing left to try is to instead make sure they are on the bottom of the ocean floor..maybe they need to be on ground to work?

I'll do some more investigating, including checking the next recoding sessions log.

@elsewhat Saw the video! Can't wait! :) Those animations look awesome and should open up more possibilities.

On a seperate note, i've just been trying to record a sequence today and have found Scene Director to have issues with boats.
    Is this known?
Helicopters and cars go where I drive/fly (in this case a simple straight line), but the boats end up going to the left or right...one recording just went in circles on playback lol
All I did was drive forward. (this is with speedboat by the way)

I checked the 'edit scene' option and the markers are where they should be.
The boat just simply ignores them or decides to go where it wants to go.

    Any way around this?
In the end i had to make do with one boat and I drove while recording with F1..
Didn't help with my primary goal though which was a scene with multiple boats driving simultaneously.

    Any ideas?

I realise this post isn't directly related to this mod but as it's to do with my use of Scene Director somebody here might be able to help.

Are there any mods/ways to attach props (like beer bottles, knives, hammer etc) that are spawned in via Map Creator or Object Spooner to an actor's hands?

I ask because when using the Animation part of Scene Director,I have a scene with an actor partying but he's drinking from an invisible beer bottle.

@Johny5521 Don't set the car's 'Objective' number to the same as the objective number that requires the car.

Example: Objective 3: GetInCar.....make sure the car is set to '0' or '1' or '2'....not '3'.

The way Build a Mission works is the 'objective' number that you enter for actors and vehicles needs to be completed first....so you need to set it to an objective number that by that point you would have finished.

Usually it's good to just have most things set to '0' so that once the start point has been finished (mission start) everything required gets spawned.

    Hope that helps.

Is there a way to make the other actors follow you as you walk?

  • Gtao35

@Unfamous Guy that doesn't help when you're trying to record a scene of multiple people ENTERING a aircraft.
Anyway, for now I resolved it by filming a sequence with Firing Squad active and simply entering the helicopter as the pilot normally and every other actor automatically followed me and filled the other seats.

@afwings I too am having problems with getting into aircraft as passenger.
